Search engine optimization generating top online rankings and exposure for your website

Many companies and business have invested considerable time and money in building a website to reflect the products and services that their business provides. However no matter how well your website and products / services are represented within your website if you do not have the traffic visiting and using your website you may as well have not spent all that time and money building one. So this brings us to the key point, how do you drive traffic to your website and not only drive the traffic but ensure that the traffic is relevant (ensuring these people are potential customers or clients).

Search engine optimization commonly referred to as seo should be implemented to ensure that your website A: starts generating high rankings via major search engines such as Google and Yahoo (therefore providing eyes on your products and services) and B: To build credibility online. Picture your website as an online property the more traffic and the more sales or leads that convert on your website the higher value your online property is worth and can also add huge value to your business as a selling point when you may wish to sell your business (providing your website plays a large part of the pie). C: Ensure your website has a reporting system in place for example Google Analytics (a reporting systems offered by Google completely free) as a reporting system will allow you to monitor the traffic to your website, where your potential customers are coming from and what they are searching for and much more. Google Analytics also allows your business to set up goals and will give you a conversion rate on this. For example a goal may be that people go to your contact page, once this goal is set up in your analytics you will be able to see how many people converted (went to the page you set up as a goal, in this case your contact page).

Okay the hairy question arises how do you implement all the search engine optimization techniques and make this stuff actually work.

1. Use a seo professional to do all the work for you as they specialise in this area, as it is important that many area’s are focused upon. When choosing a seo consultant I would suggest doing your home work as there are many seo consultants whom claim to be able to achieve certain results yet very rarely deliver. Ask them for a number of examples of work they have done for other companies and testimonials from these companies so you can make an informed decision.

2. You can give the search engine optimization a whack yourself, there are many video’s on youtube for example that will help you with this and Google also provides a number of free tools to help you with this such as their Google Keyword tool. I would suggest a great starting point would be to look up SEO book at Google as this website provides much helpful information. If you decided to give seo a go for yourself ensure that you find credible information and do not believe everything you see or read.
